Kristen Irvin

Kristen Irvin joined the New Entry staff in May 2017 as National Technical Assistance Coordinator. Kristen supports New Entry’s National Team and provides assistance to applicants and grantees of the USDA’s Community Food Projects (CFP) grant program, which strives to fund projects that support underserved populations in attaining better access to nutritious food. Kristen assists in building a national network of organizations interested in or working on Community Food Projects to elevate their collective ability to meet the needs of under-served communities. She also provides support to applicants of the USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program and supports the planning and coordination of New Entry’s Community Food Systems Conference.

Kristen holds a BA in International Studies and Women's and Gender Studies from Elon University and an MS in Agriculture, Food, & Environment from Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition, and has experience in program coordination, grant research, farm work, food service, and writing and editing. Some of Kristen's recent professional experience includes her work to strengthen the local farm and food communities of Southeastern MA as Program Coordinator at the Southeastern MA Agricultural Partnership, and coordination of the Southeastern MA Food Security Network, a regional coalition focused on addressing emergency food access and nutrition education. She was Assistant Grower at Not Enough Acres Farm in East Dennis and provided grant research and project support to a nonprofit fundraising consultant in Barnstable. Prior to moving to Massachusetts for graduate school, Kristen held a role as Executive Assistant to a team of management consultants at Right Management in High Point, North Carolina.

Kristen currently volunteers on the Board and education committee of The Livestock Institute of Southern New England. She is excited to apply her broad skill sets in program coordination and administrative support and her knowledge of community food systems movements to her role on the National Team at New Entry.

A Virginia native, she's made Southeastern MA her home.
