Our Mission

The New Entry Food Hub aims to build long term economic self-reliance and food security among farmers in eastern Massachusetts and their communities. By aggregating and distributing products from over 30 small local farms the New Entry Food Hub expands access to healthy and culturally appropriate foods across the region with an emphasis on expanding access to underserved areas.

Services Provided

  • Direct market access for farmers through product aggregation and distribution
  • Technical assistance for farmers on topics such as harvesting, packing, and marketing
  • Community access to sustainably grown, local fruits and vegetables and a connection to local farms through New Entry’s CSA program, Farm to school programing, and partnerships with food access programs across the North Shore
  • Mobile Market program taking local produce to underserved areas and supporting education and technical assistance for other farmers and organizations interested in starting a Mobile Market.

History

New Entry Food Hub, formerly known as World PEAS, began in 2005 as a cooperative with the goal to help beginning, immigrant, and refugee farmers connect with local consumers seeking fresh produce. Most participating farmers did not have a large enough volume of produce, a means of transportation, and or the English language skills to effectively access markets and earn a living wage. By forming a cooperative, small-scale beginning, immigrant and refugee farmers were able to combine their products to more efficiently and effectively connect with local consumers. In June 2013, World PEAS opened a physical warehouse space, transforming into a true food hub and in 2018, World PEAS Food Hub was renamed New Entry Food Hub.

Today, the New Entry Food Hub aggregates and distributes sustainably grown produce from across Massachusetts and the surrounding region. By working with over 30 small and local farms the New Entry Food Hub is able to serve CSA shareholders, schools, senior centers, food pantries, restaurants and other institutions. In addition to wholesale and CSA distribution, in 2023 the New Entry Food Hub began piloting a Mobile Market program to distribute SNAP/HIP-eligible local food in underserved areas with SNAP and HIP funds. New Entry also provides education and technical assistance to farmers and other organizations interested in starting their own mobile market.
